Volunteers
RSS volunteers are an integral part of the RSS Team and provide invaluable services. Volunteering is an integral part of RSS’ social activities and gives RSS members pride in their agency. Volunteers can learn new skills and do meaningful, responsible work. RSS wouldn’t be able offer the wide range of services it does without the help and talents of its volunteers. Volunteers can serve many roles, including the Senior Advisory Board, teachers and greeters, and also serve on many committees such as: The Social Action and New Member Committee, Menu committee and Fundraising. Volunteers can also help with the preparation of the newsletter and teach classes. Volunteers say they get as much as they give.
Caregivers
What’s a Caregiver?
It is hard to grasp the meaning of caregiver until you are a caregiver. Caregivers are people who take care of people who are unable to do certain tasks for themselves. They can be family members, friends, or paid workers. Caregivers are one of the most challenging jobs anyone will face. It can be difficult to find the energy and time to care for yourself. Caregivers can put their health at risk by caring for loved ones. This is the reality of caregiving. Riverdale Senior Services offers a variety of activities that can be used to support caregivers in taking care of their own health.
- Children caring for an Alzheimer’s parent can join us for an evening support group.
- We offer support groups for caregivers throughout the year.
- A full-time Social Worker is available for individual counseling, referrals and information.
- We offer many workshops on stress and health throughout the year, as well as weekly classes in dance yoga and exercise.
