Caregivers

What is a Caregiver?

Until you become a caregiver it is difficult to understand exactly what this term means. Caregivers are the people who are taking care of people who can no longer do certain things for themselves; they are family members, friends, neighbors, and paid workers. Care giving is one of the most difficult jobs any of us will ever face and finding the time and energy to care for ourselves can become an impossible task. The reality of care giving is that caregivers can often risk their own health in their effort to care for their loved ones. At Riverdale Senior Services, we offer a wide range of activities to help caregivers take care of themselves.

·         We offer an evening support group for children caring for a parent with Alzheimer's disease.
·         We also offer general caregiver support groups throughout the year.
·         We have semi-annual bereavement groups.
·         We have a full time Social Worker available for information, referral and individual counseling.
·         We offer many health and stress related workshops throughout the year and have numerous weekly classes for dance yoga, and exercise
