Riverdale Senior Services, Inc. is a multipurpose non-profit agency whose mission is to promote the physical, intellectual, social and emotional well being of older adults. Programs and services take place at a community facility and are designed to encourage and enable healthy living and living independently within one’s own community.
Local leaders founded Riverdale Senior Services (RSS) in the mid 1970's as the Riverdale Senior Center. Riverdale Senior Services (RSS) is a non-profit multi-service agency offering a wide variety of programs, activities & classes which help its 3,000 members maintain the dignity and comfort of independent living in the community. We are open to all New Yorkers over 60 and its growing population of 'young seniors' and 'senior seniors' share the center's many meaningful and worthwhile resources. Hot lunches are served daily. For many seniors living alone, this is their main meal of the day.
RSS activities, classes, programs, services, trips and workshops focus around the goals of Eating Well, Staying Active and Being Social, as well as Education and Support for Chronic Illness, Medication and overall Health Management, designed to promote the physical, intellectual, social and emotional well-being of older adults in the Northwest Bronx.
Utilizing our expertise in providing Wellness programs, RSS expanded our reach into the community, providing services outside of our Center walls. RSS now offers Health Education and Monitoring at several sites throughout the community. RSS takes pride in our volunteers, Staff and Board of Directors - a dedicated group of academic, business and professional community leaders who unselfishly provide their time and talent to the vital needs of RSS and our Members. RSS is funded, in part, by the NYC DFTA, NYS SOFA, private foundations and individual donors, all who continue to support our efforts.
“A Glorious Past, A Brighter Future”
RSS has many people to thank for financial support and those include the many individual donors and the following government and private foundations that supported RSS this past fiscal year. Without each and every dollar, RSS would not be able to reach the over 2,000 seniors who benefit from our services through the year. We graciously thank our supporters, including:
The New York City Department for the Aging
The New York City Department of Youth & Community Development
The New York State Office for the Aging
The Bronx Borough President’s Office
The Ruth Turner Foundation
The New York Presbyterian Hospital at The Allen Hospital
Sapir Family Fund
The Spingold Foundation, Inc.
Panway Foundation
The Riverdale Kiwanis Club
Thank you also to our elected officials for assisting RSS in securing much needed funding:
State Assemblyman, Jeffrey Dinowitz
Congressman, Eliot Engel
Councilmember, G. Oliver Koppell
State Senator, Adriano Espaillat
