An Evening With... 2011 - 2012 Series

Ted Conover - Thursday, February 9th at 7 p.m.  Mr. Conover will talk about his travels and studies with reference to the impact of the development of roads in his book, The Routes of Man.

Karl Pillemer - Thursday, February 23rd at 7 p.m.  Dr. Pillemer is a professor of Human Development at Cornell University and Professor of Gerontology at the Weill Cornell Medical College. He is an author of 5 books and 100 scientific publications.  In a recent study Dr. Pillemer uncovered what older people know about life that the rest of us don't know. This project led to the book - 30 Lessons for Living: Tried and True Advice from the Wisest Americans.  He will discuss the advice for living of people age 70 and beyond, and it's relevance for people of all ages.

Edie Lutnick - Thursday, March 1st at 7 p.m. (Date confirmed)  Ms. Lutnick will discuss her recent book, An Unbroken Bond: the Untold Story of How the 658 Cantor Fitzgerald Families Faced the Tragedy of 9/11 and Beyond.  This is a story of the victims, the families and how they came together bonded by a tragic fate. A very powerful, sometimes infuriating and ultimately heartrending story.

 OTHER HIGHLIGHTS:

  1. Announcing our Winter Session of Real Life Solutions:  Therapeutic Yoga - Tuesdays, January 24th - February 28th from 3 - 4 p.m.   Zumba - Mondays, January 23rd - March 5th from 10:30 - 11:30. Fee: $35 for Members or $40 for Non-Members.  Registration Required and payment must accompany your registration.
  2. December/January Birthday Celebration January 31st at 1 p.m. with the music of  Sigal Chen and Jonathan Dzik.
  3. Valentine's Day Celebration on Saturday, February 11th from 11 - 4 with music by Juan Manuel Ortega.  Tickets are available for a $5 donation in the office. 
  4. "Songs My Mother Taught" me with Anna Tonna on Friday mornings at 11 a.m. in the Green Room.  Come reminisince and share your cultural heritage.
  5. Special Valentine Concert with Anna Tonna on Tuesday, February 14th at 1 p.m.  Everyone welcome.

  7. All About Flutes (Toot da Flute) with Dorothy Wildhagen - Tuesday, February 21st at 1:15 in the Dining Room
  8. Book Discussion with Eleanor Edelstein - Tuesday, February 21st at 1 p.m. in the Dining Room.  This month's selection is "How It All Began" by Penelope Lively.
  9. Sadie Hawkins Day Celebration - Friday, February 24th.  Join us for a special lunch and music with D.J. Lou at 1:15.
  10. February Birthday Celebration - Tuesday, February 28th at 1 p.m. with the music of Maria Neuda.
  11. NY HOPS (Home Organized Personal Services).  Non-profit membership cooperative that allows you access to various discounted services.  Click here for more information
  12. RSS is raising funds while saving the planet.  We have joined forces with Planet Green and are recylcing old cell phones and printer cartridges.  For more information click here
  13. RSS is sponsoring an exciting program where we are recording our member's stories and posting them on the Internet!   We have created our own YouTube channel called BronxSeniors. Click here to view participants stories.

Welcome to Riverdale Senior Services. We hope you will find this website informative. If you have any questions, please feel free to call us at 718-884-5900. Our friendly and knowledgeable staff will be glad to speak to you directly. Our hours are generally Monday – Friday 9-6, with Saturday, Sunday and Evening openings for special events. Check our calendar frequently for exciting parties, educational programs and special events.

Our mission is to promote the physical, intellectual, social and emotional well being of older adults in the Northwest Bronx. RSS, Inc.’s programs and services take place at a community facility and are designed to encourage and enable seniors to continue living independently, with dignity with their families and in their homes.

Check out our monthly calendar, newsletter and menu to keep up with the countless classes, workshops and parties. All of our meals are home cooked by our own chef, for over 10 years, Rebecca Cobbinah. Home made soups, ice cream sundaes and her famous salmon lunches are regular offerings. Special Birthday lunches offer the honorees a half price lunch with ice cream, birthday cake and music with one of our favorite performers.
